A "ranch
for sale" encompasses an area of landscape, including
different structures, used primarily for raising grazing cattle,
sheep, elk, bison, ostrich or emu. Ranch operators are referred
to as stock growers or ranchers. Ranching is particularly common
in the western United States. The most popular areas for
ranches include Texas, Wyoming, Montana, Oklahoma and Colorado.
Ranches for sale generally consist of large acreages, but
can consist of any size. Many ranches are a combination of
privately owned land supplemented by grazing leases on land
under the control of the Federal Bureau of Land Management. If
the ranch includes arable or irrigated land, the ranch may also
engage in a limited amount of farming, raising crops for feeding
the animals, such as hay and feed grains.
